Crocus

The annual arrival of the first spring flowers has begun.  First up, the crocus.  As winter loses its grip, the crocus revolt against the cold marks the change in seasons.  The crocus is a hardy flower with many varieties that are found throughout the world.  The Crocus Sativus has been cultivated and prized since antiquity commonly know as the “saffron crocus”.  The styles and stigmas were collected and dried to season and color food.  Original native to Greece and Southeast Asia, the crocus has slowly propagated world-wide.  Let the springtime riot of color and fragrance begin.
