Better known as Persian Speedwell, a plant native to Eurasia. Speedwell was introduced to the British Isles and North America in the early 1800’s. These are tiny (less than a centimeter wide) flowers that can be seen in lawns and along the roadside in the spring. Other species of the Veronica genus were cultivated for medicinal purposes and used for ground cover. Today, speedwell is considered a weed that aggressively competes with grass in lawns.
