Crane Fly

A young (not fully developed) crane fly.  These guys can be found worldwide with many different variation.  Many of the adults do not eat and have a very short life span.  The larvae and adults are important sources of food for other insects, spiders, amphibians, birds and mammals.  The larvae of the crane fly is not a welcome agricultural friend living in the top layer of soil feed in roots and root hairs resulting in stunted plant growth or death.
