Indian pipe in bloom.  It is often mistaken for a fungus or mushroom.  It is actually a plant, without chlorophyll, that is native to European Russia, Asia, North America and northern South America.   The Indian Pipe is a parasitic plant hosting fungi that generate nutrients from the roots of trees.
