Fruit of the Magnolia tree

After the large, showy white flowers are gone, the magnolia fruit begins to form.  This is the early stage.  As the fruit ripens, the fruit will turn reddish pink with red berries developing when ripe.  The magnolia is related to the paw paw tree, however, the magnolia seeds and berries are not edible.
